The last leg of the FTOP series did not go as well as I hoped it would. Built a nice stack in FTOPS #22 pretty early only to be moved to David “The Dragon” Pham’s table. In one hand he took more than half my chips when he opened the button and I 3-bet from the BB with AKs. The flop was 234 all diamonds, I had no diamonds, I check, he bets, I call. Turn comes a non-diamond Ace giving me top-top, I bet half pot, he basically min raises me, I call. River comes a non-diamond four, giving me two pair Aces and fours with a King kicker, Pham bets 1/4 of the pot and I call, he shows A5 for a flopped straight
. Pretty sick play by David but not surprised judging from what I know about his game. I could’ve found a reason to fold but he played it so good that I felt priced in. This hand pretty much prevented me from making a deep run in this lucrative tournament. I also ran deep in the FTOPS ME placing in 92nd out of 5300 players, but of course I didn’t cash for that much. I made one play on a guy late in the tournament that costed me half my stack and a deeper run in the ME, ironically, that guy ended up winning the whole thing. It’s bittersweet that I contributed to his $453k score and ruined my chance at it, but then again it was a friend of a friend, so I wasn’t too disappointed in giving him most of my chips. Other than that, there’s nothing else eventful that has happened.
To be quite honest with everyone, this past week has been a really big losing week. I have lost almost $25k in just one week’s time which is a huge portion of what I keep in my online bankroll. I’m getting a little worried at this point, so I made the decision to cut down on my volume of tournaments and to put in a lot more time studying the game. By studying, I mean watching training videos online of some of the best pros online to date, reading up on forums and articles, as well as going through past hand histories of my own play to find any leaks. Another thing is that I know I just started blogging again since my time in Vegas but I’m also going to try and not blog so much and use the time more productively in studying poker rather than writing about it. I aplogize to my readers but I’ll do my best to blog as much as possible, plus you don’t really want to keep reading about me bitching and complaining about how bad I’m running, so hopefully my next entry will have some good news in it. Be easy everyone!
