  • Quick Update

I played in three or four of the Venetian Deepstack events but didn’t do too well.  Truthfully I didn’t even get to put in as much playing time as I wanted to because I was busy entertaining my friends that were in town as well.  I wasn’t bothered too much about it because I had a great time reeking havoc on this city with my friends.  I did gamble a lot on table games, especially roulette, I had my good runs and bad runs throughout the week.  One night I took Venetian for about 8k in one night and they finally gave me a host that comped my whole week and a half stay and catered to my every need.  I decided to juice them as much as I could, so I asked for 8 tickets to the Blue Man Group show, which I’ve already watched 3 times, but wanted to take my friends to go see.  All in all it really hasn’t been a crazy poker week for me, I’ve also been neglecting my online accounts, when I get back I’ll be back on the grind and sit on my ass for days on end, for now I think I’ll try to work on my live game as long as I’m here.

One crazy story was that I got robbed in my room while I was sleeping.  I just finished a 12 hr poker session and I was dead tired.  I don’t know how the robbers got into my room but they rummaged through my suitcase and the weird part is they only took half of the money that was in my wallet and left the rest on the floor, sympathetic robbers?  I was completely asleep and didn’t hear anything the whole time.  I’m really confused about the whole situation but I called security and pretty sure nothing will get resloved.  I’m not even worrying about it anymore, they took a decent amount of money but nothing to get all crazy over.

I actually had a flight booked to go back home last night but decided to play one more event at the Wynn.  It was the kickoff to the ”The Wynn Classic” and started with a $540 buy-in event.  They’re expecting around 500-600 players to enter so they split Day 1 into two days as Day 1A and 1B.  I played Day 1A yesterday and made it to the top 25 and qualified to play in Day 2 on Saturday, tomorrow.  They’re playing Day 1B out right now so I’m just going to go play cash games all night.  I have a little over above avg. stack with 95k in chips and when we come back the blinds will be 3k/6k, so even though I’m above avg. I still consider myself being pretty short going into Day 2.  I really need a double up in the beginning of Day 2 so that I can coast to the final two tables.  I ended up cancelling my flight and booking a room here at the Wynn for the weekend, so let’s see how I do.  Wish me luck!

It’s been two full days I have not cashed in any tournaments and I’m officially on Full Tilt.  Started the day off feeling good and focused and then the bad beats and unusual amount of coin-flip losses started rolling in and by the end of the day I was playing like a complete donk.  At one point, it felt like every player at the table could see my hole cards and knew exactly when to raise my c-bets and fold to my traps when I had monsters.  To be honest, I’ve never been so angry playing poker in my whole poker career.  I literally wanted to punch my monitor or throw my laptop out the window.  Oddly enough, I ran bad on all three sites today and didn’t even cash in any Pstars and UB tournies.  As a matter of fact, I only made money knocking out Josh Arieh in the FTOPS ME.  Overall, my FT bankroll has took one of the biggest hits it’s ever took this past week, my Pstars account isn’t looking too good, and my UB account is decent.  I can’t blame all of my failures on luck but it’s like a domino effect, I start to run really bad and it lures me into playing bad.  I’ve already decided I was going to put in some hard work and study when I get back from Vegas, I think it is much needed.  I’ll be flying out early morning tomorrow straight to Vegas to play in some live tournaments at the Venetian, so it’ll be a good change for me after grinding online everyday for the past month and a half.  I’ll be arriving at my hotel with enough time to grab a quick breakfast and play the Noon deepstack tournament for $330 buy-in.  I’ll be blogging about the results from that tomorrow and will do my best to keep everyone posted while on my trip.  Wish me luck!

I wouldn’t count today as the largest loss I’ve experienced in one session solely because a big part of it was from FTOPS #22, which I did win my seat via satellite.  In hindsight, I wish I would’ve just took the $5200 and not played in the event.  It wasn’t because I wasn’t focused or playing bad but more so because I’ve been running bad and have lost a lot this past week.  All it took was one big mistake of overplaying pocket tens vs. a very good player and my stack was decimated.  I had big hope to do well in this event and was very disappointed in how short my time in the tournament lasted.  Actually, I had high hopes in this FTOPS series overall, but it turned out to be a bust and may have to wait till next series for a deep run.  The last two events are kicking off tomorrow, including the Main event.  I don’t have much expectations anymore for making a big finish but doesn’t mean I won’t try my best.  I really need to win or get top 3 in a nice sized tournament tomorrow to recover the huge loss I experienced this past week.  Despite losing on FT, I’ve been running deep and cashing very frequently on UB and Pokerstars and have doubled my bankroll on both sites in the matter of sevaral days of playing.  I think diversifying my investments across different sites is really going to help me improve my game and give me a higher rate of return.  I’ll be flying out Monday morning to Vegas to play in the Venetian Deepstack Series and when I come back home I plan to get back to the drawing board and really get back to studying a lot to further progress my skill level.  Even though I’m kind of stuck in a rut at the moment, I’m actually enjoying and more determined to do well in poker more than ever before, and I know this optimism will pay off big dividends soon enough.  Catch me at the tables tomorrow!

So far FTOPS has been a bust, I’ve only cashed in one event for a very small amount.  They really picked a bad month for me to run absolutely horrible, I feel like I’ve been playing well but the results are proving otherwise.  The only thing tournies I’ve been winning are the satellites for FTOPS.  I’m quite relieved that I finally won my seat to FTOPS #22 which is the biggest buy-in in the whole series.  I’m down so much this week that I’m very tempted to just unregister from the event and pad my bankroll with the $5200, we’ll see how I run up until then and I will make my decision the day of.  I’m also back into knocking out pros which I haven’t done in a while, so more t-shirts coming my way.  On Tuesday the 10th, marked the most I’ve ever spent on tournaments in one day, excluding the FTOPS #22 I played in Nov., barely cashing in any tournies that day either made it out to be a huge loss.  Other than losing a lot of money on FullTilt, I’ve also deposited $2k into my Pokerstars account and fired up my ever-so dormant Ultimate Bet account.  So now I’m mult-tabling tournaments across all three sites concurrently.  I’ve sacrificed some of the smaller buy-in tournaments I play on FT just to try and keep myself from over-loading with a million tournaments at one time.  My screen name on Pokerstars and UB is ’ecafkrod’.  So far I’m down a little bit on Stars and nearly doubled my bankroll on UB.  I’ll try and find a way I can post my results for both sites just like I do for FT.  There’s not much more to talk about, I hope I can pull something out of my ass in these last four FTOPS events.  Here are the FT pro KO hands:

Sundays are naturally the biggest tournament day of the week as far as maximal prizepools go.  This Sunday was specifically unique because it was one of the most potentially profitable day across numerous tournaments.  I’ve never played a session where I had so many chances to win anywhere from $30k – $250k from one tournament, a lot of it had to do with the three FTOPS events that kicked off today.  Notice I stressed ‘potentially’ profitable day, because even though I could’ve made a lot of money, the truth of the matter is I didn’t.  In the utmost sarcasm, what a perfect day it was to run super bad.  It had nothing to do with my play, I know this because I was completely focused and determined my whole session.  It’s hard to race in marathons with no running shoes, I literally was running on my bare feet.  To translate that metaphor, I was losing all races and was almost always dominated in spots where it would be mathematically incorrect for me not to ship my chips in.  Today was one of the biggest losing days I’ve had in a while.  I like to be optimistic about these days and believe that for cold days like this I’ll run hot sometime in the near future, so hopefully it’s in either FTOPS #12 (tomorrow), #22, or the Main Event.

On the brighter side, I just ordered my new ergonomic office chair online which I definately think will be a +EV investment, especially if you sit on your ass for as long as I do everyday.  Check out this link if you’re intrested in getting one yourself, http://www.hermanmiller.com/CDA/SSA/Product/0,,a10-c440-p8,00.html .   A bit pricey but should be definately worth it in the long run and maybe bring better results!

FTOPS #12 tomorrow will replace the usual $1k Monday which is pretty much the same structure except for a $1M gaurantee as opposed to a $300k and one free rebuy if you get felted before the first break.  These second chance tournaments is a new type of tourament FT has recently integrated.  Anything that has to do with free chips I will definately not argue with, plus it allows for very LAGgy play (loose aggressive) in the early stages.  I can almost taste my victory getting closer.

Obviously didn’t do too well in FTOPS #4 but I did win a $75 buy-in 45 person SnG for almost $1200.  Since I had some time to kill I decided that I wanted to try my hand at winning a seat to FTOPS #5, which was a limit hold’em event.  I wasn’t expecting to win a seat since I hardly ever play limit anymore, it came to my surprise that I did end up winning a seat.  I probably didn’t have the correct approach going into the limit event but played my best and got through half the field until I was knocked out.

I had high expectations for myself in FTOPS #7 because it was the event I placed 3rd back in Nov. FTOPS.  I ran pretty hot up until we made the money and got knocked out in 175th place for a small cash.

The LAPC (Los Angeles Poker Championship) event is part of the World Poker Tour which starts on Feb. 21st at the Commerce Casino.  It’s a $10k buy-in and a lot of the top professionals fly in to play in this event.  Considering this tournament would be local, I tried playing a satellite to win a $12k prize package that would enter me into this tournament.  I ran like God playing in this tournament and was a decent chip leader going into the final table.  I played good using my chip advantage to pick up blinds and antes and had the lead for most of the final table.  My hot run lasted until it got down to heads-up when it mattered most, we got the chips all-in preflop with my KK vs my opponents JJ and he hit his set on the turn.  I placed 2nd for almost $3k and my opponent took 1st for a $12k prize package, almost a $9k difference!  It was a little disappointing that I didn’t win my seat but when situations like this happens, I like to just look at it as it just wasn’t meant to be.  I’ll keep trying to win my seat but if it so happens I don’t, I probably won’t play in the LAPC.

Tomorrow is a big day because I have three FTOPS events to play, #8, #9, and #10.  Let’s hope I can take a title home in one of them.  FTOPS #9 will be my first big heads-up tournament I’ve ever played, it’s going to be interesting to see how I bid in that event.  Time to get some sleep.

I don’t usually play the Big Doubles but since I missed most of the early noon tournaments, I decided to play all the highest buy-in tournaments in the evening.  It all worked out, getting 1st place in Big Double B for almost $3k.  Simultaneously, I made another final table in the $22k Rebuy.  It was very apparent that I was the favorable player coming into this final table.  I played the best I could and could tell my opponents were getting very intimidated judging from how frequent they let me steal their blinds.  When it got down to heads-up my opponent went on a good rush at the very beginning of the match and captured the title.  I still took $5k for a 2nd place finish.  Overall, it was a very good day for poker but looks like my first double win is going to have to be postponed again for a later date and hopefully it’ll be in higher prizepool tournaments.  FTOPS #4 starts tomorrow at 11AM, gotta get some rest if I want to play well.  Good night!

Well today was the kick off of the FTOPS series starting with a $1M guarantee event that attracted a staggering 6275 players.  The prizepool actually hit $1.2M with first place taking home $216k.  I feel like I played very well up until the hand in which I knocked out with.  I 4-bet push preflop for about 24BB with 33 versus a loose preflop raiser hoping I still had some fold equity or at worse be a race if he decided to call.  Unfortunately, he had me dominated holding 77 and apparently I shouldn’t even have considered fold equity into my analysis because he snap called with full confidence his 77 was good.  I’m highly dubious he knew his 77 was good but rather convinced himself he was going to commit all of his chips in this hand prior to me raising.  Not much I can do about that, just move on to the next event.  I played few other tournaments but those didn’t work out so well either.  What did make it a profitable day was playing almost 400 hands in $2/$4 6-max cash games and winning about $2k and $1600 of it coming from one fish in two almost back to back hands, I’ll post the hands below.  Tomorrow there is no NLHE FTOPS event but I will be playing the usual daily tournaments.  Next event is on Fri. which is the FTOPS #4 – $200k Guarantee – 3x Shootout event.  Shootouts are still a relatively new style of tournament to me, so I’m looking foward to that.  Here are the hands I stacked the fish with in almost consecutive order:

I ended up playing the evening Saturday tournaments, even though I usually take the day off.  Made a deep run in the $65k again taking 7th place, I have been doing fairly well in this tournament considering I won 1st place a few days prior.  Marking the end of January as my most profitable month yet, pulling in about $75k in net winnings in just one month.  Also take into consideration that I was gone for half the month because of the bahamas, so in all reality, I made that much in half a month.  Pretty crazy!  Definately a good start to the new year and it only gets better from here!

Superbowl Sunday was held at one of my frat brother’s house, we bbq’ed, played games, and bet with each other on the game.  I didn’t want to miss the big Sunday tournaments so I decided I was going to try and play while I hung out.  This turned out a disaster because it was very hard for me to focus on the tourneys while having fun with my friends and watching the game.  I probably would’ve made deeper runs in a lot of my tournaments if I did pay attention or would’ve saved money if I didn’t play at all, lesson learned.  Overall, I had a blast choppin it up with my friends and eating burgers and dirty dogs all day.  Even though I didn’t win playing poker, I did make some heavy bets on the game using an online sportsbook betting mainly on the Steelers and the over.  An amazing game it was, as both the Cardinals and Steelers scored miraculous touchdowns in the final 3 minutes of the 4th quarter with Steelers being ahead by 4pts, covering the over bets.  I ended up making a cool $2k on the game which did offset my losses in poker and made it a profitable day.

Today, for some reason, I was just not in my element as far as my poker game went.  A lot of it I know had to do with fatigue and a slight sickness that I woke up with.  Towards the end of the day I pretty much gave my chips away in attempt to either double up or take a nap.   This is a really bad mentality to have but there was just nothing I can do other than just not even play today, my head was just totally not in the game.  Tomorrow, if I feel worse than today than I’ll probably take the day off and try to recover so that I’ll be in better shape come Wed. for the start of the FTOPS series.  Time to get serious and prepare for mental warfare this whole month.
